No cygnets this year!

It appears that the heavy rain on 28th & 29th March 2008 washed away the swans nest on one of the islands at the mallards.
It seems that every time we get heavy rain, the road bridge between Mallards Way and Spot Lane gets flooded, the footpaths around the lake are impassable, the grass is unfit to even walk upon and it is clear that the wet weather is not always friendly to the wildlife.
A local resident in Discovery Road reported that the outlet pipe seemed to be blocked stopping the water flowing from the lake, back into the river Len and tried to unblock it.
It was reported that a member of the Len Valley preservation & Angling society attended to the blockage on the 29th March, sadly too late to save any swans eggs that were in the nest.
Latest report: It looks like the swans are nesting again, so fingers crossed!
Success: Swans doing fine with 6 cygnets! Photos.
