Willington street / Madginford road traffic lights - page 3

Another complaint sent to KCC Highways dept. concerning the increased traffic through Downswood!      Click for photos

Dear Louise Rowlands, KCC Highways department

Attached are the first of many photographs (I suspect), of accidents that are due to happen in the Downswood area
since it was chosen to be a 'KCC Highways department Ratrun'. This is due to the new traffic light installation at the
Willington St/Madginford Road junction.
As far as I know, this accident happened on Sunday 22nd February 2009 in Deringwood Drive, approaching
the Orchard Spot roundabout and it is sadly ironic that it's next to the childrens playground sign!
You can also see in the photographs how close the speeding car came to ending up in someones house in Pennine Way.

It would be impossible for me to contact you every time the queues in Willington Street extend back into the dip,
(and sometimes further), past the Deringwood Drive junction, as it happens so often!
This is why frustrated drivers choose to take the quicker and obviously 'speedy' shortcut through Downswood and up
Spot Lane, which is a totally unsuitable Road for all this extra traffic.
The KCC Highways Department have diverted traffic through Downswood by installing these new
traffic lights and it is now proven to be a totally dangerous shortcut - approaching a childrens playground, (The Mallards).
What will it take to get these new traffic lights removed, a child badly injured or killed?

I have seen a small white KCC van in various locations on occasions recently. Would I be right to asume that the driver is monitoring
the traffic situation? For my own curiosity I did a little monitoring myself and found that this van was rarely in any position longer
than 5 minutes.

Yours sincerely

John Everett
